In the middle of the Black Forest, a small exclusive motorcycle producer is fulfilling every biker's sparkling dream. Volker
Sichler's Hollister Motor Cycles designs genuine custom bike crackers, tailor-made to meet the specifications of clients from all over the world.
In the early 70s he was a hero for a whole generation, going into battle against the establishment the cult film "Easy Rider" Peter Fonda on his Harley chopper embodied like no other the attitude to life of the rock generation of that period. Back then, the motorbikes - called "choppers" - of the rebellious bikers deviated widely from the norm, owing to the technical alterations and
adjustments made to their appearance to make them look less tame. They gave the road movie feeling a real ¡mage. Custom bikes, as they were later called, were particularly popular with beginners and returnees. Even today these gleaming chrome machines are still objects of desire for individualists, an expression of the personality of those for whom extravagance, pure aesthetics and quality
are a must. In his workshop in peaceful Horgen near Zimmern, Volker Sichler contains the dreams of these bikers within clear contours. Here he is able to indulge in his passion producing small batches of motorcycles and individually designed custom bikes equipped with the latest technology and electronics, a royal class of bike, not just any old thing but "bikes with a unique character found nowhere else, which make waves around the world". A lot of fervour is engendered, but not without getting to know beforehand precisely what the customer wants. Passion and understanding of what it takes to make a fast bike are the defining qualities Volker Sichler, who is gripped by a desire to realize his vision of producing a superior machine with the finest craftsmanship, from the 3D model to final assembly. Every component, from the engine, gears and handlebars to the exhaust, wheel rims, forks and brakes are developed in-house. Even the small parts are built to Sichler's specifications by licensed partners. Down the years, bikes of superlative quality have been made - "the perfect combination of a beast of prey and thoroughbred racehorse". Even Batman
would have been impressed by the futuristic Phantom that was first introduced at the Daytona Bike Week. In the meantime it has won shelves of trophies and set a new standard in Europe for American custom bikes. The Phantom achieved an international breakthrough for the Black Forest motorcycle producer, clearing the way for a showpiece that smashed into the scene like a bomb.
The remarkable EXCITE with its one-piece aluminium frame and breathtaking shape has an enamel coating, which must be the most innovative currently available. Depending on how the light falls, the flip-flop enamel appears to change colour lending the bike its unmistakeable appearance. However, the small lot production of Hollister's Excite is restricted to a limited edition one bike per country was planned. As well as one for Romania, further deliveries are destined for a German federal state, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia. It was awarded the ultimate accolade when it won first prize for the most beautiful motorbike in the world. Willy J. Davidson, Head Designer of Harley Davidson described it as, "the nicest bike I have ever seen", unable to deny his enthusiasm for the
thoroughbred motorbike at the legendary centenary Harley-Davidson RIDE-IN-SHOW at Daytona. Along with its powerful aesthetics, beauty and elegance, the EXCITE also has a number of super technical details such as the "multi-bike controller", an electronic module integrated out of sight but controlling the important functions centrally from the press-button ignition to the remote
control alarm system. However, when the machine is started up it activates electro-hydraulically the air-pressured shock absorbers that are programmed for height and body weight. That such dream super-bikes are expensive goes without saying. Well-heeled customers from all over the world are prepared to pay between Euro 50,000 to 100,000 for their "escape from the daily round". The road to superbly crafted custom bikes leads to Zimmern in the Black Forest, where Volker Sichler forges his super-bikes at Hollisters Motor Cycles.
